You may test for your belt between 3-4 months.  You will be awarded a stripe with the date of your promotional when you pass. You may test for your Orange stripe after one month in rank.

White Belt with Orange Stripe

Demonstrate Yoko Geri (Side kick to knee) & Ushiro Geri (Back Kick), Gedan Barai (Low Block/Parry)

Demonstrate proper Yoi, Kiotsuke, and Rei

Kata (Form)

Perform the 1st 8 moves of Fuji Kata Dai Ichi (First Basic Form).

Each progress stripe requires 1 month (8 classes).  You will be tested for your next belt after passing all four stripes AND an additional month (8 classes).

Demonstrate Uraken (Back Fist) & Kizami Zuki (Jab with 2 Front Knuckles) followed by a Punch, Jodan Uke (High Block), Chudan Uke (Middle Block), Gedan Barai (Low Block)

Extra credit: Yoko Geri (Side Kick), Ushiro Geri (Back Kick), Teisho (Palm Heel), Tettsui (Hammer Fist, literally "iron hammer")

Orange Stripe

Note: Students are expected to support their dojo and bring at least one friend in to watch or try karate.

Spirit: Loud Kiai (Spirit yell)

Nutrition: Explain good eating habits. (A balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables and not a lot of fast food and junk food)

Able to do a proper Kiotsuke (Attention), & Rei (Bow)

Self-Control: Stand in Yoi (Attention) for 2 minutes.

During the month, help with Nitten Shoji (clean-up) at the dojo and home.

Organization: Put shoes and jacket away neatly in dojo and at home.

Purple Stripe

Self defense: Traditional Ippon Kumite (One step/Punch/ Block/ Counter)

Extra credit: Mae Tobi Geri (Flying Front Kick) with Bonsai Run

 

Jr. Orange Belt - Kukyu (9th level) - All of the previous requirements, plus:

Test for Belt after Passing Previous 4 Stripes

Anger management: 10 Deep Breaths & Cool Down

Support your dojo: Bring in one friend to watch or try karate.

Fuji kata Dai Ichi (First Basic Form)
