(First Four Step Sparring Drill)

This is a four step fighting drill utilizing hand attacks and hand counters, where the attacker and defender have a closed stance. There are two series of attacks and counters consisting of three sequences per series. The attacker steps forward four times delivering lunge punches high, middle and low.

On the fourth step, in the first sequence, a high punch is delivered, second sequence a solar plexus punch is delivered and in the third sequence, a low punch is delivered.

The defender retreats using outside closed hand blocks, employing the following counters on the fourth step of each sequence. This drill should be practiced on both the left and right sides.

Fourth Step Attack Fourth Step Defense
1. Punch High 45 degree shiko dachi, (no block) chase punch to the ribs
2. Punch Solar Plexus Chest block, reverse punch to the solar plexus
3. Punch Low Low block, hammer fist to the temple
4. Punch High High block, reverse punch to the ribs
5. Punch Solar Plexus Chest block, two knuckle punch to the corner of the eye
6 Punch Low Low block, upper cut to the jaw
