You may test for your belt between 3-4 months.  You will be awarded a stripe with the date of your promotional when you pass.



Brown Belt - Ikkyu (1st level) - All of the previous requirements, plus:

Kihon (Basics)
Drills

Demonstrate Sanchin Breathing, while walking down the floor in Sanchin Dachi, holding a double chest block; may add punch and chest block.

Kata (Form)

Perform Ananku

Think, train, and carry yourself like a Black Belt.

Write your Black Belt Paper - 1 to 2 typed pages on any subject related to karate that also tells us a little bit about yourself and how you've evolved in Karate training, and your plans for the future.

Drug Safety: Explain the dangers of the following: Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs (Pot, Heroine, PCP, Crack, Ecstasy, Cocaine, etc.), Food as a Drug, etc.

Physical
Self-Defense

50 Jumping Jacks, 50 Push-ups, 50 Sit-ups and 50 Mountain Climbers

Run 3 miles (on Honor System).

Demonstrate advanced self-defense using joint locks, including knife, gun and club defenses.

Each progress stripe requires 1 month (8 classes).  You will be tested for your next belt after passing all four stripes AND an additional month (8 classes).

Self-Defense: Demonstrate knife, club, and gun defenses.

Flexibility: Demonstrate proper spine stretch (cat/camel) for low back and neck stretching (no full circles).

Jr. Brown Belt - Ikkyu-Sho (1st level) - All of the previous requirements, plus:

Additional black tip replaces colored stripes

Character Development: Nitten Shoji for the month at home & dojo.

Perform Yonhon kumite Dai Ichi & bunkai a series of moves.
