Jukyu - 10th Level White Belt

Jukyu Theme:

How to Train and Keep a Positive Attitude (#1 of Karate Creed)

Karate-do is made up of three words “Kara” meaning empty, “Te” meaning hands and “do” meaning the way or path; therefore Karate-do, means the way of the empty hands and is meant to be used for self-defense only.

Note to Instructors: You should introduce students to the 1st 8 moves of Fuji Kata Dai Ichi. Students are also expected to support their dojo and bring at least one friend in to watch or try karate by orange belt.

White Belt - Jukyu (10th level)

Test During 1st Month

Kihon (Basics)

Oi Zuki (Lunge punch) & Gyaku Zuki (reverse punch)

Shuto (Sword Hand), & Mae Geri (front kick)

4 corner blocks, Jodan Uke (high block), Chudan Uke (middle block)

Perform proper Shiko Dachi (straddle stance) and Zenkutsu Dachi (front leaning stance)

You must know what your requirements are as well as the Japanese names for your techniques.

Show a Positive Attitude

Information about the style:
Know the name of the Academy: Academy of Traditional Karate
Know the style of Karate: Shorin-ryu (Little Forest Style)

Know how to count to 10 in Japanese (see handouts)

Explain when you would use your karate and proper use of force, e.g., what would you do if someone yelled at you vs. someone pushed you vs. someone punched you violently?
