Green/White Belt - Rokyu, Adult Requirements

You may test for your belt between 3-4 months.  You will be awarded a stripe with the date of your promotional when you pass.

 

Green / White Stripe Belt - Rokyu (6th level) - All of the previous requirements, plus:

Kihon (Basics)
Drills

Demonstrate Ippon Kumite Dai Ni (2nd 1 step fighting form).

Demonstrate 2nd Half of Kihon Zuki (Basic Strikes).

Note to Instructors: Introduce students to Ukemi (break-falls, from a throw, along with rolls, and front and back falls) & explain how a student should "tap out" Know the proper amount of force to use in class.

Kata (Form)

Perform Pinan Shodan (1st Peace Form).

Safety

Terminology/History: Know basic terms and be able to explain the origins of karate. Be able to explain at least one karate master (See "Essence of Okinawan Karate-Do").

Car Safety: Explain importance of buckling up (It's the law) and driving responsibly. Know how to defend yourself in and around a car.

Physical
Self-Defense

20 Jumping Jacks, 20 Push-ups, 20 Sit-ups, 20 Mountain Climbers

Self-Defense: Demonstrate defense from a headlock (strike to groin/ stomp on foot/pinch/takedown).

Flexibility: Increase butterfly groin stretch by 2 inches.

Jr. Green/White Belt - Rokyu, Youth Requirements

Each progress stripe requires 1 month (8 classes). You will be tested for your next belt after passing all four stripes. You will be awarded a 5th stripe with the date of your promotional when you pass. You will be asked to perform your highest kata at your promotional.

Demonstrate Inside and Outside Mikazuki Geri (Crescent Kicks)

Perform the 1st 9 moves of Kihon Zuki in a Kiba Dachi - Extra Credit for performing it in a Shiko Dachi.

Extra Credit: Spinning Ushiro Geri (Back Kick)

Orange Stripe

Kata (Form)

Perform the 1st half of Pinan Shodan (1st Peace Form), up to the kiai.

Gold Stripe

Tradition: Know that karate came from Okinawa Japan, and our style was founded by Shoshin Nagamine.

Leadership: Lead the class in warm-ups with enthusiasm.

Purple Stripe

Character Development: Explain #4 (Respect) of Karate Creed.

Show you can still do previous Kata.
